What is a conduit?

A conduit is a desktop program that interacts with the HotSync program. Conduits come with the Palm OS's built-in applications, as well as a large number of third party applications. They act on "their" app's data during HotSync. In its simplest form a conduit takes care that the specific app's data is stored in and recovered from a specified directory on the Desktop at HotSync time. More sophisticated conduits can translate the data from the format on the handheld to a format suitable for a desktop program (i.e. a database or a spreadsheet) and allow both-ways synchronization for data that has been modified between HotSync operations both on the handheld and on the desktop.
